When Jesse and I got back to the hotel Saturday night Rebekah called asking if I received a delivery. Only thing I've ever had delivered to me in a hotel was faxes. The front desk brought up a FedEx Floral package—a dozen long-stemmed roses. Gorgeous. “They are for you and Grandma,” she said.
Sunday morning Mom and I opened the cards Abi sent in my suitcase. Mom loved the roses as well as the arrangement in yellow and white Jesse and I bought her.
After church, Mitzi and Chuck made a fabulous Mother’s Day dinner. Mitzi’s specialty is shrimp and crab, luscious in the fullest, most succulent sense of the word, with the perfect steaks Chuck prepared. Mitzi also made Mom’s favorite dessert, be-bop-a-reebop, Rhubarb Pie.
Chuck put us on the midnight train to Chicago, the end of a satisfying Mother's Day on the road.
