Bless This House

Bless this house O Lord, we pray.  Make it safe by night and day. . . Bless the roof and chimneys tall. Let Thy peace lie over all.

We've had frequent hail in Longmont this summer. We discovered a small leak in the sunroom, and then two leaks in the sunroom. Jesse built the sunroom himself. It is my favorite part of the house. The sunroom is where I curl up each morning to write, where I have my books and art papers. It was disconcerting to watch the sunroom become the rain room.

State Farm was willing to replace the roof on the entire house, as well as the roof on our shed, and to replace the gutters.  The roofing crew worked in the hot sun, and during breaks in the shade they indulgently let me practice my Spanish with them. Today the gutter crew is here, working on the sun room and shed, which took the biggest hits.

This roof is guaranteed for 30 years--much longer than we will ever live here. But God bless this house and all those who ever dwell therein.

Bless this house, O Lord, that we may be fit to dwell, O Lord, with thee.
