What Happened:
In Ma;y 1977, Wes graduated with his Doctor of Ministry. His parents Paul and Betty Pixler came for the occasion. In June Wes and I went to Ft. Collins, Colorado to Annual Conference for Wes's ordination as Elder in the United Methodist Church. The ordination candidates had a private ceremony of washing each other's feet. It was beastly hot in the packed sanctuary during the ordination. We had no travel money, so we camped out in the tent my parents gave us for a wedding gift.
Wes and I attended the first Hunger Project event with Werner. We became very active with hunger relief through the Hunger Project and the church for many years.
Wes was appointed as assistant pastor to the Pueblo, Colorado First UMC. We drove back from California with our meager belongings stowed in Wes's car. I think he sold his motorcycle before we left, as I only remember having it in California. We drove through Las Vegas on the way to Pueblo, and while we had coupons for free meals and hotel, it was sickening to see people focused on gambling, even at breakfast.
We had no keys for our new place when we arrived in Pueblo, and it was a little confusing getting settled in the apartment. We were excited though to be starting that new phase of our life together.
Wes got to preach a few times, to many compliments, and every day he posted a new prayer on the church's Prayer Line. Wes continued as the associate pastor, and he started learning first hand about being a pastor. He loved preaching but didn't get the chance very often. He put new prayers on the church's answering machine every day. He learned that moving tables for the UMW women was more important than working on a sermon
Brook and Tom Henderson moved from California to Colorado springs, and we drove together to seminars in Denver. We went to seminars in Colorado Springs when they became available. I remember What's So, About Sex.
I acted in a play at the University of Sothern Colorado, called "The Women." We drove to Colorado Springs for our est seminars.
My baby brother Charlie graduated from high school.
