Sadie and I went for a ramble this afternoon--it was a little surprising, because I thought we were just going to walk down the sidewalk and find Golden Pond. It was a bit more complicated, but we had a good time. It was walking back up Hover Road on the shoulder where we got into trouble.
Squirrels, birds, small fast furry things, all send her into a frenzy and she bolts. Usually I dig in my heels and shout "LEAVE IT!" and she comes to a screeching halt.
This afternoon, however, she caught me by surprise, and I was sugarbowl over teacups into a ditch, her leash flying out of my hand. In her racing and chasing Sadie got wound up in the bushes in the ditch. After catching my breath and having a few words with Sadie, I was able to extricate the two of us.

Sadie thought it was a right jolly adventure, which, after I was sure nothing was damaged on either of us, I kind of thought, too. Since the ditch was too steep on the road side, Sadie helped me up into the field. It was a glorious breezy afternoon with a view of the mountains--hard to be stern. Especially when Sadie found the way through the weeds over the ditch to get home.
We hiked through the tall weeds and grass, and I felt like an Iowa girl again, playing in the fields in and around Muscatine.
The buildings in the distance are Stonebridge.
Happy to be in sight of home, Sadie and I leisurely enjoyed the rest of our ramble.
