Okay, it's been a beautiful fall, but we've had only one snow so far this winter. For everyone who prays for good weather, let it go, already. Start praying for snow! In addition to the aesthetics of the Christmas season, we need snow or Colorado is going to be in a drought again. The snow seems to settle on the mountains, neglecting the plains.
The Weather People (no, not the old radicals, I know you thought it!) keep predicting snowfall, but this morning's few flakes are not sticking with a few small exceptions. Snow did accumulate on the ice on the pond, under a couple of pine trees on the north side of the property, and the sidewalk in front of my apartment, just enough to make it slick. Sadie and I were out walking in the light snow, and of course my mind was playing "Outside the snow is falling and friends are calling yoo-hoo . . ." Seems like I have a music soundtrack just like in the movies. The sun peeked out and the flakes glittered, giving the sense of a moment in a snow globe.
From experience I can authoritatively state that prayer can affect the weather. When Wes and I were still in seminary he was preaching his then brand new "Miracle Month of May" sermon series. As we were in a California drought, many of the prayer requests were for rain. All of us, especially Wes, were praying for rain. Even though the predictions were for hot and sunny, each day there was a little rain in Whittier. One Wednesday the sun was blazing relentlessly and the forecast was for bone dry. We had nearly given up hope, when there was a rain shower-- in the church parking lot! O we of little faith! After that the drought ended in, and it rained every day in May.
So please, quit praying for nice weather for the holidays!
