Larry Cabin Attendant
We commend Amtrak. They took full responsibility for our missing our stop--never implying we should have been responsible for ourselves. Amtrak staff apologized profusely and repeatedly, our cabin attendant Larry, the conductor and the train manager at the DC station.
Ms. Anderson, the manager of the two trains that shuttle back and forth between Chicago and DC, the Capitol Limited, met us at the depot, walked with us to the ticket counter to arrange gratis First Class sleeper tickets back to Pittsburgh. "They were carry-bys," she explained to the agent. After tucking vouchers for the food court into our ticket package, Ms. Anderson showed us the way to our train and the First Class Lounge. All the while taking care of us, she was directing EMT's to deal with a passenger having a seizure, sending train staff home to get some sleep, and helping an older woman get her tickets sorted out. Man, she was knockdown gorgeous and all the staff in the train station nearly genuflected as she passed.
While we had an hour before departure, there was no point in a mad cab ride to the Jefferson Memorial--cherry blossom time was over two weeks ago. Instead Jesse and I walked outside Union station, looked at the flag waving over the Capitol, and walked back inside and onto our train. Pittsburgh for Mother's Day! |
