Corn Dogs and Fried Snickers Bars |
The Boulder Couny Fair, which conventiently takes place at the fairgrounds here in Longmont, was the first attraction to which we took Carol and Louis, Jesse's little brother, at the beginning of their action-packed two weeks in Colorado (which included our wedding reception). While it doesn't have the State Fair whiz and glamour, the county fair is a small town pleasure to savor. Savoring fair food is one of the pleasures, deep fat-fried forbidden delights and cotton candy. Okay, I didn't eat the last two, but I was tempted. The corn dog on a stick with a dab of mustard was profoundly satisfying.
Early in the week are the showing and judging of hogs and goats, jams and canned tomatoes, embroidery, children's art, science demonstrations, wood working, lush pumpkins, tomatoes and egg plants. In the middle of the week are children's days and seniors day. By Thursday the ribbons are awarded and the outstanding entries destined for the State Fair in Pueblo. Not to mention the old time ferris wheels and carousels, and new-fangled spheres in water that have children and adults scrambling like gerbils.
