Balloon Fiesta - Day 3 - Friday
A man is shouting outside the RV in the rain and dark. My God, are we being attacked by
terrorists? No, the man is hustling
newspapers. It’s 5
a.m. We turn on the morning news, Live Coverage from Balloon Fiesta Park.
No activities this morning, perhaps tonight.
We walk the grounds again in the late morning, a ghost town
of deserted tents. A few booths are
open, and Porkey persuades us to try deep fat fried alligator in chipotle
sauce. I can recommend the chipotle sauce. The alligator is flavorless and chewy. We amble by the various closed RVs,
including the police “Tag your Tots”, blood donation, a black rig with amps and
drums, the Tour Texas exhibit, and three TV stations.
We return to the artists tent and my honey buys
me beautiful earrings and necklace, onyx and opal in silver. I look hot--I can see it in his eyes.
The family returns to our RV to cook and devour ribs, mole,
tortillas, salsa and green beans. Lovely
to have a refrigerator, microwave, stove and oven.
We watch a remake of “The Karate Kid” with Jackie Chan and hope for
evening activities, such as Balloon Glow and fireworks. The best part of the day is the being together as a family.
5:30 p.m. It is raining.
7:30 p.m. Still
raining. Balloon Glow cancelled. A few feeble attempts at fireworks.
11 p.m. Raining
harder. Otherwise, all is
still.
