Indian Market Dazzles

If you think you have to go to New Mexico or Arizona to get good Native American products, you should try out the annual Indian Market and Southwest Showcase held at Denver's Merchandise Mart. It's a three-day event.  We went on Saturday: hundreds of booths and thousands of shoppers in cowboy hats.

Jesse said, "Here's some money, buy something you like."  How could I resist?  Not too surprisingly, the cash went for jewelry--opal and silver earrings.

The Main Stage and Storyteller Stage were booked with talent from tribes throughout the west and mid-west:  Lakota, Zuni/Omaha, Oglala Lakota, Sious/Assiniboine, Navajo and Inuit.   Bands and dancers such as the Morningsong Band, the Ehecatl Aztec Dancers, and Brule kept the crowds happy.  I enjoy flute and drum music, and even in the shopping aisles it was cheerful.  We did skip the Hypno Cowboy and his gun tricks.

Jesse liked the paintings and the metal work.

After the jewelry I was most taken with the Native American nativity sets and Christmas ornaments.

Yes, Christmas is past, but I keep my eye out all year for ornaments all year, especially angels and stars.  I bought one of each.
