Serendipitous Hats

There is a cute little store in downtown Longmont called Serendipity.

Walking through it was like visiting my childhood home, my grandparents' homes, with the formica tables, Life magazines, and crazy lamps.

Among the treasures were vintage hats, purses and shoes.  Abi and I were silly as teenagers, trying on hats--my mother's hats, my grandmothers'  hats.  Many of the hats had equally fancy labels inside, millinery stores, Lords & Taylors.

Remember the little veils, and the little feather hats, the Jackie O pill boxes?  We restricted ourselves to one hat each.  Abi's hat is like a soft  fancy dinner plate with rhinestones, mine a bell-shaped flapper hat with black feathers.  I carried the vintage black eel purse, but sighed and left it behind.  I did get a black and white 60's eye glasses case.

My psychic tip from the future is that hats are making a comeback.  Remember, you heard it here first!
