This is a hymn I wrote for the Centennial of the Akron (Colorado) United Methodist Church in 1982. My friend Linda Hayes was the organist at a church a block away, the Akron Presbyterian Church, which was also celebrating 100 years. She set my words to music, and both churches sang it. I'm planning to sing it for special music in August..
We All Love the Lord
We're farmers, we're housewives, we're implement dealers.
We're doctors, mechanics, preachers and teachers.
We work in the factory, we live on the farm,
with conflicting hopes and differing dreams,
but we all love the Lord. We all love the Lord.
We all love the Lord: we follow our Lord Jesus Christ.
We're some of us sorry and some of us sinners.
We're some of us striving for stars in our crown.
We're some of us hungry and some of us peaceful.
We sing when we're up, and we pray when we're down.
And we all love the Lord. We all love the Lord.
We all love the Lord: we follow our Lord Jesus Christ.
We try to be kind and we try to be loving.
We pray for each other. We share what we can
to help out our neighbors here in our own county
and those we don't know in far away lands,
'cause we all love the Lord. We all love the Lord.
We all love the Lord: We follow our Lord Jesus Christ.
And if Sunday morning you're visiting our town,
come worship with us or the church down the block.
The Lord's table's there, too, and so is the Bible.
We work close with them, and it's not a far walk.
Yes, we all love the Lord. We all love the Lord.
We all love the Lord: We follow our Lord Jesus Christ.
