Little Free Libraries in Longmont

400 block on Bowen St.
I love the notion of Little Free Libraries --you know, the little boxes people put on a pole in the yard with free books. The idea is "take a book, leave a book."  Thus the neighborhood book box becomes self-sustaining and literacy and sharing abound. New friendships grow.

I love finding the little libraries, like a treasure hunt. I've found four in Longmont so far, with rumors of more, including one shaped like a train. I'm on the hunt for that one. My friend Emily and I think we should make a bike map to distribute when we've located "enough."

Isn't the one made from a pink breadbox delightful? I have a suspicion some kids made it, as the books inside are mostly older elementary books. I pulled "James and the Giant Peach" from that trove, which was fun to read again.

I've been collecting books for (our soon to be) Zuniga's Little Free Library on 10th Avenue and for a proposed one at Heart of Longmont, our church. Everyone wants to play. Absolutely no one has said, "What a terrible idea!"

King Soopers gave me a coupon toward the price of children's books. At the Heart of Longmont rummage sale the church ladies gave me a huge box of kids books for 5 cents each. I've been scrounging yard sales as well with good support. Of course Amazon Prime is involved; I want new books in the mix, too.

My deal with my honey is that if he will build it, I will
keep it stocked. We're well on the way.
