We've celebrated two holidays this summer: Father's Day and the Fourth of July. We bought a fire pit at a yard sale. We celebrated one birthday so far, that of Jesse's brother Lou and tomorrow we are headed to a housewarming for daughter Rebekah and her family (and their anniversary--seems like yesterday when she was 19.) We have a few more festivities to come, but none, it seems, will be spent sunning ourselves on a beach or camping in the mountains.
After back surgery for Jesse in 2012, he is getting to the point he can walk with a cane. My knee replacement surgery has been successful, but riding a bike, pushing a grocery cart, and carrying my granddaughter all cause serious complaints from the lumbar region. So, we are not kicking up our heels too much.
Jesse spends his days creating the prettiest yard in the neighborhood, outdoors from morning prayer until the evening news.
We feel blessed in our quiet life, despite the Republican convention this week and their dark version of America. (Okay, we are still obsessed with the news.)
Breaking today: The gladiolus bulbs that went into a big pot are sporting red-ruffled buds, one of the succulents is blooming and the dahlias are plate-sized.
